My birth preferences are locked and loaded. Basically meaning that I’m done drafting them and formatting them and multiple copies have been printed and packed so there’s no going back now.
Now, I’m drafting a few other supporting materials: a labor playlist, a pushing playlist, and affirmations.
These are things that I think every pregnant person should be particularly picky about. I’m not taking a chance on someone else’s song selection or the random shuffle feature of Apple Music. Each song should be one that centers me in the feelings I want to feel during my labor and delivery.
And it’s the same with my affirmations and mantras. They need to personally resonate and uplift. They can’t feel cheesy or too far from my truth in my toughest moments of labor.
Here are the ones that I am working with, cherry picked and tweaked from a variety of sources and influences:
My surges aren’t happening to me, they are a part of me.
My body knows what to do next.
I am in partnership with my body.
My ancestors are with me.
Joy is my energy in labor.
Joy is my strength in labor.
My baby trusts me, and I trust this process.
Each wave brings me closer.
I welcome each surge.
I feel confident. I feel safe. I feel secure.
